Sheila van Tol
LLB, PG Dip Law, Dip Counselling, Certified Transactional Analyst

Sheila is a highly skilled Counsellor and Psychological Therapist with over 16 years' experience.  She has a COSCA accredited Diploma in Transactional Analysis Counselling. TA combines cognitive-behavioural (CBT) and interpersonal therapy, in order to help resolve core issues.

Sheila is a highly experienced clinical psychotherapist, and is a qualified transactional analyst, working with TA (Transactional Analysis, a humanistic form of therapy).  She has chaired the Scottish Transactional Analysis Association (STAA), which seeks to promote TA in Scotland and is a member of the UK Association of Transactional Analysts (UKATA).  Sheila is also a registered member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy and you can search here for her registration details.

Her interests include working through relationship issues with individuals and couples and is interested in the effect of parenthood on identity.  Sheila also works with clients who have identity issues arising from life transitions, including those who have trouble knowing who they are following redundancy, bereavement, unemployment, or when facing long-term or life-changing illness, or other loss which impairs their capacity to function effectively in the world.

With an understanding of the corporate world, Sheila draws on her experience of having previously worked as a lawyer.  Many of her clients present with assertiveness and communication issues at work and she provides a safe and contained environment to help them to learn to voice and negotiate their needs more effectively and work through any anxiety or depression that may have arisen.

In her practice, she uses a mixture of active listening, warmth, clear thinking and many years of personal psychological work as part of her training to help facilitate growth in clients.  Her aim is to help clients feel more comfortable sharing what is often very uncomfortable.

Sheila offers a reduced rate for self-funding clients (£100 for assessment, £80 thereafter).  Sheila is currently offering online appointments during the week, and face-to-face on Friday mornings.
